As we quickly approach Halloween, I feel the need to talk about a type of trauma you might not even know you have: witch wounds.
Regardless of whether you have a spiritual business or just a person with a spiritual soul, this is a block that likely comes up for you in your life.
Why? Well, looking back in history the depictions of witches from those time periods show a caricature of evil that blends with the silly and unearthly. But the truth is far more horrific.
Putting the Witch Trials in Perspective
?The witch trials were a mass murder of women and anyone too “other” for the liking of society. They were a vast femicide that spanned Europe and the Americas that saw thousands of women sensely prosecuted, tortured, and killed in some of the most horrific ways.
Some estimates place the death toll around 60,000. Others suggest it was far more. To put that into perspective, that’s more than the death toll of Americans who died in the Vietnam War.
No one was safe from the witch trials. Women could be accused of being a witch for almost anything. And that’s how we wound up with these collective wounds.
For centuries, women were persecuted for daring to live outside the box that society had built for them. Your witch would is the imprint left on your soul from that incarnation. It’s soul-based trauma that keeps you inside the box now.
I’ve identified four main wounds that I’ve seen in clients, friends, and even myself.
The first one I’m going to talk about is self-sabotage.
Self-Sabotage as a Witch Wound
Because witches were killed for their individuality and uniqueness, success proves risky to your subconscious. Essentially, on some level you’re afraid that you’ll be harmed if you succeed, so you make sure that you never get past a certain comfort level around success.
When struggling with self sabotage, you most likely suffer with perfectionism, which is really just another version of imposter syndrome.
The best thing you can do is practice radical self-acceptance, the ultimate version of self-love. That means wholly loving who you are, including your mistakes, your judgmental thoughts, and the messiest, worst version of yourself. You can’t solely love yourself when you feel deserving.
Tools for Overcoming Self-Sabotage
?In the mean time, get more comfortable with success by setting more bite-sized goals that you need to accomplish on the way to your big vision. Then celebrate those smaller milestones as if you achieved THE BIG GOAL.
If you need help navigating this witch wound, I’ll be hosting a workshop for a small group.
This workshop will focus on how we can use the darker powers from our feminine and otherworldly ancestors to heal this wound and step into our most audacious and daring selves! Details coming soon!
