Dear Jessie,
I own a fairly new landscaping company. Consumers are backing off of outdoor improvement projects and I’m struggling to get people to follow through with bid acceptance. I’m trying to re-strategize my marketing and approach but not seeing an improvement. How can I attract higher income clients who would be more willing to accept large bids?
Signed,
Landscaping Lady
Dear Landscaping lady,
I think the issue here is twofold: (1) Using the right lingo in your marketing and approach and (2) energetic alignment with the clients you want.
First, I want you to think about the ideal client you’re calling in and the issues their having. Write out what emotions they’re experiencing because of their shitty landscaping/outdoor spaces. Get as specific as possible. Then go through this for how they’ll feel after you improve their space.
If you’re struggling with getting inside their heads, interview up to 25 people who fit your ideal client description (they don’t have to live near you, but kudos if they do). Ask them all about their issues and what they look for in a landscaper and what they think reasonable numbers are, etc. JUST so you can get inside their heads.
I guarantee they will give you the perfect language to use in your marketing.

When it comes to your mindset,
Here’s an activity to answer that question of “How can I attract higher income clients?”
I want you to journal or stream-of-consciousness record yourself musing on these topics:
– Why might I feel like rich people don’t want to work with me?
– In what ways would making big money scare me?
– Who am I afraid of becoming if I become wealthy?
– Who would potentially reject me if I become wealthy?
– What am I most afraid of happening in my business?
– Who am I afraid of becoming if that fear becomes reality?
I could give you some more personalized ones, but those should get the wheels turning for now. Sometimes these underlying fears give us an energy of fear or desperation that manifests itself in subconsciously pushing away ideal clients and opportunities
I would also pick up a copy of Jen Sincero’s You Are a Badass at Making Money. I highly recommend buying it to revisit, but your local library should have it! And if they carry e-books and audio books, you can likely download them via the Overdrive app.
As always, you’re more than welcome to book a coaching session with me or jump on a discovery call to see if we’re a good fit to work together 1:1.
Good luck! You’ve got this!
